Her memories have been altered.
Her mind and body aren’t under her own control.
And the person she knows as Mother is a monster.

The Elliott Review:
Intensely readable and fast paced, this story unveils a dystopian world unlike any other I have read so far. Evelyn is living in an underwater society closed off from the rest of the world. Her Mother, the ruler of this city, has its inhabitants under close watch and strict rules that must be obeyed or else. Evelyn has basically no memory of her past, and the glimpses she remembers leave her confused about her role in her Mother's rule of the city.
When she meets Gavin, he causes her to question her role even further because, although he is a Surface Dweller, he doesn't meet the expectations she has of Surface Dwellers due to what she has always been taught. In fact, his descriptions of his life above the surface sound rather pleasant, and he's in fact quite yummy.
I couldn't stop reading as Evelyn and Gavin race to safety amidst many secrets and lies.
